About the role:

This post will be based within Next Link Domestic abuse services providing outreach, and community based support to high risk victims across North Somerset. Working closely with the Lighthouse, One Front Door and MARAC to provide co-ordinated package of emotional and practical support, advice and advocacy to female or male high risk survivors of domestic violence and their children,

The role involves empowering high risk survivors to increase their options, make positive choices/decisions, increase their confidence, safety and recovery.

Key duties and responsibilities of our Female IDVA:

  • To carry out risk assessments including DASH, co-produce safety plans with the service user regularly review the plans, enabling survivors to assess and manage risk to their own and their children’s safety. Amend plans as appropriate when circumstances change and attend the MARAC and refer service users when appropriate.
  • Carry out needs assessments which effectively establish the support needs of individuals and families and enable support to be offered as quickly as possible. Respond flexibly as the individuals or family’s needs and risks change
  • Promote the service through building positive relationships with the Police, Lighthouse, current and potential referrers and service users to ensure a steady flow of appropriate referrals.
  • When appropriate, using our established protocols, make referrals to Addaction for Substance Misuse support services and AWP Mental Health services for a mental health assessment
  • Liaise closely with applicant and referral agencies and keep informed of progress and outcome of their referral/assessment.

What we are looking for in our ideal Female IDVA:

  • Be IDVA qualified
  • Proven experience of working with women / men and children who have survived domestic abuse
  • Extensive experience of supporting high risk victims
  • Experience working with the police, Lighthouse and MARAC
  • Experience of undertaking individual assessments including DASH risk assessments and developing and delivering safety and support plans.
  • Experience of co-producing short and longer term risk management, safety planning and support with survivors and their children experiencing Domestic Abuse
  • A full driving licence and access to transport

About the role:

The roles will be based in the North Somerset Housing team and you will work alongside colleagues and other partners to support women and families in housing need and support around domestic abuse support.

You will develop and coordinate support and provide interventions across a range of key partnerships as it relates to domestic abuse. You will support and educate housing workers working to develop robust, trauma informed approach to service users faced with housing issues and domestic abuse. You will advocate for these women and improve responses to DVA within the housing teams and link into and support strategic work across the authority.

Key duties and responsibilities of our Domestic Abuse Housing IDVA’s:

  • To train and support housing staff to identify and support victims of domestic/sexual abuse.
  • To establish and maintain support to women and their children, with a victim centred approach, focussing on safety and recovery and ensure service users:
  • Are safer
  • Feel safer
  • Feel more empowered and confident
  • Have an increased understanding of DA and risk factors
  • Are more aware of safety measures
  • Have an increased understanding of the abuse they are experiencing
  • Understand the Impact of DV on their children
  • Using intelligence from a variety of sources, and support housing teams to identify these families in need who are at risk of domestic abuse, alongside partners form a clear action plan and lead on their housing whist addressing their domestic abuse
  • To provide advice and guidance to Housing teams and other partners dealing with domestic abuse
  • Be an active participant in multi-agency meetings and undertake regular consultations with housing and other partnership colleagues
  • To liaise effectively and collaboratively with partner agencies to respond to women and children in crisis and at risk, maximising safety and achieve positive outcomes
  • Champion service user empowerment and involvement by ensuring our services:
  • Are accessible to all potential service users;
    • Value and respect service users as the experts of their experience;
    • Work in strength-based and solution-focused ways with clients;
    • Facilitate agreed actions into practice
    • Use service user feedback and involvement to improve our service

  • To provide age specific trauma informed one to one and group interventions that enable children and young people (CYP) to build emotional resilience and well-being
  • To provide a high quality service and co-ordinated package of on-going emotional and practical support to CYP who are suffering effects from the trauma of domestic abuse.
  • Maintain an effective support service with the aim of enabling the CYP to develop the skills and resources necessary to move on, maintain safe relationships and achieve their potential.
